During the times of the day when the sun was not directly overhead, the other vegetable plants cast shadows on one another.
Many plants were unhappy about this, thinking, “your shadow is blocking my sun”, and they pushed and pulled and bent and were upset, and so the taste of there fruits was bitter.
But one plant realized, “if I rise above the other plants then I will not have to compete for light among those who push and pull and make bitter fruit”.
So he took all the energy he had once spent pushing and pulling, and he used it to grow taller instead.
Now he enjoys as much sun as he wants and the Farmer prizes that plant for the sweetness of its fruit.
